Cosplay Year 2012

I wanted to do one of these cosplay year summaries after seeing that Shiro Samurai did one on his blog. To make mine a shorter version than his, I'm just gonna write down what I have cosplayed during the whole year and to which cons I have been to. Sounds fun! Let's get right down to it then!

My cosplay year has been a blast and l have enjoyed every con more or less that I have attended during the year. I'm also pleased and satisfied to have found some new friends who likes the same or similar series as I do! I'd like to thank all the people I have spent my time with during the cons of the year. Wouldn't be as much fun if it weren't for you guys! So thank you for everything and I hope to see you next year! <3

This year I have been to the following cons:

Desucon Frostbite 2012 - Lahti, Finland
Uppcon12 - Uppsala, Sweden
Animecon IX - Kuopio, Finland
Närcon 2012 - Linköping, Sweden
Oulun Animeseminaari - Oulu, Finland
Tracon 7 - Tampere, Finland
Kemi's Manga Day (6/10 - 2012) - Kemi, Finland
Skecon - Skellefteå, Sweden

Here is what I have cosplayed during the year (only one version of each character shown, even if I might have done more than one version of the particular character):

Upper Row from left to right: Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia), Uryū Ishida (Bleach), Izuru Kira (Bleach), Keisuke Sannan (Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan)

Lower Row from left to right: Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach), Yamato "Matt" Ishida (Digimon), Silver (Pokémon). Eh, I have no more cosplays to fill this empty slot for 2012. U mad bro?

Happy New Year 2013!

Närcon Vinter 2013 Cosplay Plans

I have finally decided what to cosplay at Närcon Vinter (22nd-24th February) in Linköping, Sweden. I make it short and clear.

This time I will go as:

Silver (Rival) from Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Keisuke Sannan from Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan.

Silver will be my Friday cosplay despite the cold February weather. I will do my best to stay indoors as much as possible with this cosplay on, to not get a cold. It was quite cold to be Silver during Skecon so I take that into consideration now. Because no one of my cosplay partners will do a Pokémon cosplay to Närcon Vinter I'm gonna be -forever- alone which I don't want to be. I'm just gonna waddle off on my own and spend my time with MangaRINer who I don't see many times a year. Keisuke Sannan for Saturday simply because we will have a small Hakuōki group that day. The Sunday cosplay is yet again in a big fat question mark like usual, it depends so much when the con ends, when our train goes and stuff like that. If I cosplay on Sunday it will be something casual or less "normal" clothing. We'll see.

Skecon 2012 Summary

Hi there!

Skecon was held in Skellefteå last weekend and I enjoyed it a lot! The area was better than I thought and the con atmosphere was just perfect. During the con I was accompanied by Shiro Samurai, Sacchan and Ninjah a friend of Shiro Samurai who took the same bus to the con as we did.

Friday was the day when the three of us cosplayed as Pokémon trainers. Me as Silver, Shiro Samurai as Falkner and last but not least Sacchan as Erika. All of us cosplayed the Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver versions of the characters. When we arrived at the con we went to our accommodation place, changed to our cosplays and headed towards the con building. Once inside we picked a photoshoot location and took some photos of all our Pokémon costumes.

After the photoshoot we went to explore the con area a little bit more and after the exploring we just chilled in the bean bed chairs and enjoyed the con. During the evening there was this one person who cosplayed Itachi Uchiha from Naruto -without a wig- who came and talked with us about Pokémon. They seemed to be a fan of the series and were glad to see us cosplaying from Pokémon. We also had a few photos taken of our group and I heard some people say during our photoshoot "Oh look Pokémon trainers! They're so cool!" it was rather flattering to hear that. When it started to get late the three of us headed back to the accommodation place to get some sleep. Ninjah wanted to join the hamburger restaurant raid during midnight and came to sleep afterwards. Once at the accommodation place I, Sacchan and Shiro Samurai changed to payamas and went inside our sleeping bags (read: Metapods). Shiro Samurai was high on sugar and con excitement so he went on a "Metapod rampage" around the accommodation place and fell later on me! Which did actually hurt as I wasn't prepared, screw you bro! Luckily the "Metapod rampage" didn't last long and afterwards we all tried to get some sleep inside our cool sleeping bags. They all had a name, depending on their color. Shiro Samurai's was Metapod (obviously perfect green, duh!), Sacchan's was Pinkpod and mine was Emo Kakuna (it was orange-black). To sleep was  difficult for me, the sleeping bag was really thin and the fitness mattress I had my sleeping bag on was hard. It was like sleeping on the floor without anything under the sleeping bag. I probably fell asleep around 03:00 and woke up during 04:00, 05:00 and even 06:00... just perfect! We all woke up during 08:00, if I remember correctly.

On Saturday all of us cosplayed from Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan which was our main cosplays for the con. The cosplays was the same as usual, me as Keisuke Sannan, Sacchan as Yukimura Chizuru, Shiro Samurai as Toshizō Hijikata and Ninjah as some original version Hajime Saitō. There was no photoshoot with our Hakuōki cosplays because we derped too much. At one point during daytime we went to Ica (food market) that were a bit away from the con area and bought some drinkable yoghurt which was going to be our breakfast. We went there as a trio, Ninjah stayed at the con. On the way back to the con we saw two kids around the age of 8-10 who walked in front of us together with their mom. They were all normal until one of them noticed us and shouted "Look real samurais!" and then both of them started to stare at us and whispered things while walking. We walked right next to them, until I slowed down because I needed to fix my swords and therefore slipped after my friends. I decided to walk discretely behind them to hear better what they say. It was hard to keep a poker face at times but I managed well until they turned and went inside a store to the right of us. I heard them say these things "Look they have Chinese clothes!" followed by "They have swords too!" and when I started to fix my swords in place one shouted "Look he touch them, look, look! They are real!" the other one "So damn cool, I want swords too!" and before they turned into the store one of them said "They have shoes too!" and I cracked right after they went inside the store. These kids seriously though we were real samurais or something! Awesome! xD

The rest of the con day went to derping, being out of character and just relaxing with my company. At 14:00 everyone except me went to try kyudo in the martial arts dojo in the con building. After they went inside a person came to sit next to me and asked if I was cosplaying Keisuke Sannan from Hakuōki. My reaction:

Seriously, someone knew who I was cosplaying in such a small con!? Shits are hitting the fan! But yeah, I gave them a candy for recognizing me. I bought a kilo and a half on Friday because it was really cheap and we spoke a bit about Hakuōki and other series. Later a few other congoers walked by and before they left the area where I was sitting, one of them walked in front of me and wanted a hug. I hugged them and suddenly more people came and the person who hugged me first said "Everyone wants to hug the samurai!" and some other random people hugged me too. I guess it was funny, even if I'm not so fond of physical contact. The person who sat next to me hugged me and left when their friend who've been at the dojo came to pick them up. After some time had passed Ninjah and Sacchan came back from the kyudo activity but Shiro Samurai was still inside, probably having extremely fun or sleeping there, lol. I told my friends who arrived from the dojo what happened when I was alone. Later I went inside the dojo to tell our Herpkata Hijikata that we all wanted to go and eat soon. When Shiro Samurai came out from the dojo, le shinsengumis headed for Max (hamburger restaurant) to feed themselves with... hamburgers. On our way to Max which was really close to the con building, my shoe decided to troll and broke just outside the restaurant's entrance. Maximum trolling! So I went inside with a broken flip flop shoe which was no fun at all. At times it positioned itself straight up behind my foot and it felt so retarded when that happened! We ordered our burgers and picked our table and started to eat when our burgers arrived. Of course hamburgers were a thousand times more fun to eat with cosplays on, so lots of derptacular moments happened!

Cosplayer: Frozen Angel (Keisuke Sannan)
Photographer: Shiro Samurai

You sure you want this burger?
Never mind, I eat it! NOM NOM!
What did I just eat?...
Once we had swallowed our burgers, fries and lemonade our full Hakuōki group started to head back to the con building. Because my shoe derped and trolled Sacchan offered to help me on the way back to the con. I really appreciate your help Chizuhurr Chizuru! Troll!Sannan kiittää <3

Back at the con Sacchan started to shake and freeze so I and Shiro Samurai looked after her. We missed the cosplay competition because of her temporally fever -which it seemed to be- but I don't mind, I place my friends above my enjoyment. Sacchan started to feel better after a while and everything went back to normal con meaning. We enjoyed the rest of the con evening by shaking a coke bottle with two hardened chewing gums inside, eating candy and taking awful photos of each other and of course fake sleeping in the bean bed chairs! Those were awesome! I have nothing more to say except warm thanks for the amazing company I had during the con weekend! I'd love to visit Skecon again in the future, it was a chill con with a cozy atmosphere, a nice area and well arranged and planned event, even though the small size! <3

Cosplay Progress - Silver

Hello peeps!

During the last couple of days I have been working on my Silver cosplay when my bro has been working on his Falkner cosplay. Both characters are from Pokémon.
As you folks might have noticed there hasn't been any in-progress posts of my Silver cosplay. Why? Well, I wanted to do an all-in-one post about the progress from start to finish because the costume is quite basic looking and does not include so much details, if any at all.

On to the progress!

The cosplay I'm going to sew is:

Silver (Rival) from Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver.
The whole cosplay process started on the 9th September and I decided to start off with his pants, which were basic ones. Except for the stitched parts of it. Because we have quite few purple fabrics at mom's place, I had to go with something that we had. Silver's pants are more light purple according to me but I went with a darker purple instead.

Mom cut out the fabric, time to sew them together!
Both front and back parts together.
A piece of white ribknit fabric on top of the pants. Will need it.
That was what I did back at 9th September with some help of mom. Now to what I have been doing more recently. 27th and 28th October I kept sewing the pants to my cosplay until they were finished.

Ribknit sewed in place by mom.
Specific areas stitched by mom... again. I tried but failed and I hate sewing curves!
Stitchings at the knee area (on both knees) I did it.
So that was the pants. Let's head over to his shirt which I started on the 28th October. Silver's shirt is actually dark purple in the reference picture but because I have seen many Silver cosplayers done it black instead I rolled with it too. Besides his old design from Gold/Silver/Crystal has black so it shouldn't be too derp. As usual mom cut out the fabric pieces for the shirt -I will start to do this self soon- and when she gave the pieces to me and told me to start sewing it... well, she ended up sewing it herself instead. This is why I don't have any progress pictures of it. At least the results are great! Before anyone comments on it, yes, I have sewed shirts before so I know how it works but I'm just so damn slow and derp. When the shirt base is done I go and pick up some stuff that I'm going to need for the costume.

The shirt without a collar, a zipper and two satin ribbons of different size.
This was for the 28th day. I leave the progress there and head to sleep. I always sewed during evenings when mom was home and when I could manage on my own, I sewed during daytime too.

I woke up around 10:00 local time the 29th October and started to sew the broad satin ribbons on the shirt's wrists.

Fastened the satin ribbon in place and time to sew.
Sewed with straight stitch around the ribbon's corners and middle part.
Final results. Satisfied.
When I was done with the satin ribbons I had to wait for mom to come home to be able to continue, she wanted to do the collar and place the zipper because those are more tricky to do. I left said task to mom and went to paint a pair of shoes I thought would work for the cosplay.

Before the painting. I do it indoors.
After the painting. Looking good!
When the painting of the shoes was out of the way, I started to style the wig for the cosplay with some help from Shiro Samurai.

Holding up the chunk of hair that's gonna be styled.
Shiro Samurai cut it to the right length.
I only styled the pointy chunk, the rest looks already good as it is.
I used g2b water resistant spiking glue to style it, took a small amount in my fingertips and shaped the spike the way I wanted it. I won't glue it in place though because I might need this wig for future cosplays. Once mom came home during the evening she sewed the collar in place for me. Thanks mom.

The collar in place, now it's starting to look like something!
That's all for that day. The next day (30th) I will do the shirt's ribbon patterns that the character has both at the back and front. I started with starting up my computer and getting up a good reference picture with all the character sprites from the game. I studied the picture when shaping the ribbon pattern. I managed to get the left half of the shirt done fast.

Pattern fastened on the left side of the shirt.
Time to sew it in place, straight stitching.
Left side completed. I like it ~
But when it was time to start forming the pattern on the right side -making it identical to the left- was a pain in the ass, especially the back pattern! I don't know how long I sat there and tried to make it identical! I took the measurements correctly, checked the distance between ribbon A and ribbon B and I sewed it several times but there was always something trolling. I always ended up unstitching the whole crap or at least parts of it or re-doing the pattern until I was all annoyed over it. So my feeling in two words:

There was nothing else to do than leave the process for a while and calm down with some Mario Kart: Double Dash together with Shiro Samurai. When mom came back from work she helped me out and we found out what the problem was! I had cut the ribbon too short, compared to the other side. However, I found a solution to it and I continued sewing. Finally after hours of rage I managed to get it somewhat identical. Guess if I feel pleased?

When the ribbons were sewed in place Shiro Samurai took some photos when I just had the shirt on, to see what it looks like.

The last day (31th) I had the zipper left to sew in place and the rest of the ribbons that goes down the zipper and around the hem. Let's get to work then!

The ribbon fastened with needles. It goes down the zipper and around the hem.
The hardest part here was definitely to get the stitching down through the zipper without hitting the zipper's teeths. I sewed the zipper area at a very slow speed. You need to be very careful when sewing here and sew straight or else you have your needle broken before you know it. I still ended up unstitching this area a few times. I had a hard time to sew completely straight even though I placed the presser straight on the ribbon were I should sew, it still went a bit to the right towards the teeths and derped. But after 2 hours I managed to get done the rest of the ribbon, just exactly when mom arrived home. What a timing! I also enjoy sewing ribbons and edgings on costumes.

Now my Silver costume is done! Yaay! The only thing that's left is a quick photoshoot of the whole costume all together! Also please excuse the blurriness it's the bad lighting that is the reason behind it.

Oh my... this entry took me forever to write. What have I been sitting here and writing this shit probably at least 3 hours? Huh huh. Well now it's complete so ~

Smell ya all later at Skecon suckers!

Cold Mercenary - Kratos Aurion Photoshoot!

Welcome back!

Yesterday I and Shiro Samurai had a photoshoot with our lesser photoshooted cosplays. His Hajime Saitō (Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan) and my Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia) cosplay. We had our photoshoot in the nearby area around mom's house. First my bro photoshooted me and then vice versa. When we were done photoshooting -and when I almost had frozen fish sticks to fingers- we finally went inside and spent the rest of the evening watching a movie and eating candy with cosplays on.

Anyway here is some photos! I must say I am rather proud of the most photos taken.
