Närcon 2012 Summary

Four days of awesomeness is behind us - Närcon 2012 has ended for this year. I feel terribly lazy right now but I guess I need to write about the con when everything is still new and fresh. Because I know that my bro has already written about the trip and about our time at the hotel, so I'm just gonna link that topic from his blog here. If you're interested to read about our trip, random hotel derping and of course his con time then go ahead and click on the link. Besides, for me it feels kinda derp to write pretty much the same thing as he already did. I just don't have anything to say about it when he covered it up pretty well. Hope you don't mind bro ~

Now to my con summary.

Thursday was the first con day out of four. I and Shiro Samurai together with our friend Psycho Cat -who booked the hotel and was there with us- changed early to cosplays. It took some time before we all were finally ready to leave the hotel and head to the con. I was cosplaying Keisuke Sannan and Shiro Samurai cosplayed as Isami Kondō both from Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan and Psycho Cat cosplayed different Bleach characters all the days. Thursday was a very warm day and the three of us had to line to get inside the con for some hours. This is common here in Sweden's bigger cons and I was almost literally melting in my cosplay during the lining hours! Imagine two kimonos, one of them being a vintage dark green silk kimono and the other one a basic white kimono. On top of that I had a dark blue haori with a black kimono belt over it to keep my swords in place. I also had black hakamas and under them was a brown kaku obi to keep my green kimono from derping on the ground because of my short height. Warm? You bet! The line started to move quite fast after that the clock had passed 13:37, which was the con's official opening time. So we didn't really line for so long, luckily. But it was still freaking warm outside! I was walking around the con together with Shiro Samurai the most of the daytime in hope of someone recognizing our "so-never-cosplayed-characters".

At one point when I went on my own to Josbaren (milkshake bar) as Sannan one person who cosplayed Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica asked for a picture when they spotted me. It was nice that someone knew who I was! It made my day. If I remember right they also said something about Sannan being one of their favorites so they were really glad to see me cosplaying him. They also recognized me when I wore Uryū Ishida from Bleach (Saturday) and when I didn't cosplay on Friday, they always waved and smiled when they saw me during the con. I don't remember exactly what the clock was but maybe around 17:00 or later? I found this new friend of mine - MangaRINer with whom I had an affair. We only chatted with each other a few times before the con but already back then we had a good connection and understanding towards each other. MangaRINer cosplayed Rin Kagamine along with their friends who also cosplayed from Vocaloid. I hanged around with them for the rest of the evening and the whole Friday when I didn't cosplay.

Like I mentioned at earlier I didn't cosplay on Friday, sorry to those who expected me to be Sannan again on Friday. On Friday I just put on my light blue Uppcon12 t-shirt and styled my bangs and front side hair similar to Kratos Aurion's from Tales of Symphonia. This to make MangaRINer and others recognizing me easier and it worked, lol. I hanged around with MangaRINer and their company like I already mentioned above and I had a really great time with them. I didn't cosplay because I just wanted a break from the super warm Sannan cosplay and most of all - I didn't want to put on the makeup again. It was such a mess to wash away, I really had problems.

My last con day. I didn't attend the con on Sunday because I didn't want to stress myself to death with the packing. Besides my legs and the lower part of my back hurt like hell so a Sunday rest was nice. During Saturday I cosplayed Uryū Ishida from Bleach and attended Närcon's Bleach meet. There was a lot of Bleach cosplayers, yay! A Kenpachi Zaraki cosplayer decided to march through the con's inside area when all of the cosplayers had arrived to the meeting point. When we had marched a short while inside the building I heard one guy saying something like "Here comes the Bleach army!" in the background. It was a really nice march and our final destination was the photo studio. In the studio we managed to make place for all the cosplayers to fit in the picture frame. Some of the cosplayers made some silly-friendly comments to others when they were trying to get their spots. I cracked to some of them. I love to see the photos if anyone have or found them! When the photos were taken we all headed outside to the same outside area where the grill, Josbaren and the swimming pool was. Kenpachi arranged the whole thing. He placed all of us others in small groups and picked then, I think it was four of us, to let these "chosen ones" decide what they wanted to see and take photos of. The whole photo thing was first supposed to be battle shots and scenes from the manga/anime -as I interpreted it- but ended up being mostly yaoi and fanservice of different kinds. I and three other Finnish Bleach cosplayers disliked the pairing ideas. But you kinda have to expect it when many congoers are yaoi/yuri fans. I felt sorry for one of the younger cosplayers who got "picked" and dragged into this kind of thing.

There was this one photo idea that came from a Hitsugaya Tōshirō cosplayer and this Hitsugaya also liked Ishida as a character. The idea was that I -as Ishida- got lifted up and carried by two Ichigo Kurosaki cosplayers as some kind of "Ishida is superior" thing. For this I just made a grumpy "better than you" face that probably Ishida would do too, as he don't really like Ichigo. Some derp photos also happened afterwards and our Mayuri Kurotsuchi made some "come to the lab" jokes too.

The con's last day but I didn't attend the con.

I just wanted to sleep, restore myself both physically and mentally and pack our luggages without stressing like two mad guys. I'm also gonna mention here that I didn't buy any merchandise from the con because well, nothing really caught my interest. It's good to save some cash after the shopping explosion at Uppcon12. The con closed 12:00 or 13:00 so according to me it wasn't really worth the trouble to head there, be there a few hours with luggages and all the bags and then head back with all that stuff. Not cool. Besides when I didn't attend any panels or competitions, there wouldn't be anything for me to see anyway. Yet it would have been nice to say goodbye to my friends there both old and new. But because I have seen what I wanted, done what I wanted I didn't really see the point to go there on Sunday. So no thanks this time, I'm satisfied with three days.

That's all for now. See ya!

Närcon 2012 Cosplay Plans

Hello there!

Närcon 2012 at Linköping, Sweden (26th-29th July) is creeping closer for each day that pass and I have a hard time to actually realize how close the con is. Here is what I will cosplay there this year.

Thursday & Friday

Keisuke Sannan from Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan.
It will be double day Sannan because Shiro Samurai wanted to cosplay two different characters from the same series and I have so much to pick from trolololo. Oh well, the cosplay is comfortable to wear except that the glasses comes off pretty often and gives somewhat of a headache in the length.

Uryū Ishida from Bleach.
Simply because there's a Bleach meet on Saturday and that I want an easy cosplay to put on for a change.

I don't know if I want to wake up pretty early and change to cosplay and then just wear it for 2-3 hours before the con ends. Perhaps I just wear my Uppcon12 t-shirt or just one kimono that I bought not so long ago. We'll see.

Animecon IX Summary

Hello hello!

During daytime on Friday mom drove me and Shiro Samurai to Kuopio where we stayed at Rauhalahti Spa Hotel which wasn't too far away from the con area. When we arrived at the hotel we had some lunch and mom went to the pool area. I and Shiro Samurai derped meanwhile in the hotel room and talked about the coming con - Animecon IX.

On Saturday we woke up early around 08:00 in the morning local time and changed to our cosplays after the breakfast (which was included in the hotel price). Once at the con we met some friends (mostly Shiro Samurai's friends) and I later met one of my friends who I had an affair with, which went smoothly and both of us were satisfied. I cosplayed Kratos Aurion from Tales of Symphonia but a few people recognized me. The con had around 2000 visitors according to the amount of tickets sold. But it was worth to cosplay him because everyone who recognized me there were really happy to see someone cosplaying from the Tales of series. Almost all of them shouted "Kratos!" from behind when they saw me and asked kindly for a picture and wanted a hug afterwards. It was really sweet, indeed. I was pleased. I just love the feeling when you cosplay a character that is not so much cosplayed and then someone recognizes you! It just makes you both so happy! This -at least for me- makes it worth to cosplay those characters, because the few who recognizes are often really, really happy to see a cosplayer from that game/anime/series or whatever.

During Saturday I spent most of my con time with two new friends - Creams and Roll (I had contact with Creams before the con) so I switched between them when I lost track of the other. Both of them took several pictures of me and tried to kindly offer me food of different kinds. I refused kindly and said that I had decided to eat together with Shiro Samurai and mom at the hotel. Later I think it was around 16:00-17:00? I accompanied Roll during the con and we went to Hesburger (hamburger restaurant) because they wanted to eat there. Together with Roll and their two other friends we walked -I was the only one in cosplay- to Hesburger which was a bit away from the con area. I didn't order anything there so I just gave them company meanwhile and enjoyed the silence myself at the restaurant. I had a minor headache because the con was pretty noisy so it was nice with a change of atmosphere. When we were at Hesburger Creams sent me a text message and said that they saw a Colette Brunel cosplayer at the con. I also heard that there was a Sheena Fujibayashi cosplayer too during the first con hours but I never saw Sheena. Now our next goal was to find this Colette cosplayer. I was excited that there was another Tales of Symphonia cosplayer! Tales of cosplays are really rare here in Scandinavia, just to add.

Almost at the end of the con day (ended 19:00) I found this Colette cosplayer together with Creams who sent me the text message earlier. One of them took some photos of me and Colette together and there came more people who took photos of us. Before I left for the day I took a photo of Colette myself. I didn't really buy anything on Saturday except a Japanese Doraemon candy container. It contained different colored bean shaped candies and those were really delicious! Gotta buy some more on Sunday!

Sunday started off like Saturday with breakfast before changing to cosplays. My cosplay for Sunday was Keisuke Sannan from Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan. I and Shiro Samurai together with other friends at the con had decided to do a Hakuōki group at Animecon IX. The day went well and I was only photographed in group photos. Underrated character go go! When we had the group together we had everyone except Shinpachi of the shinsengumis, but we had double Saitō and double Okita. We went to a bigger outdoor area and took crap loads of crack photos and some silly drunk/pairing ones. Oh my I want to see them! To tell the truth... I did some rape faces in some of the pictures because well, it fits the character somewhat. Do it like a boss *trollface*

Picture of some members from our Hakuōki group. Shiro Samurai as photographer.
Our members were:

Shiro Samurai as Hajime Saitō
Zkitsu as Sanosuke Harada
Jäärä as Yukimura Chizuru
Ri-kun as Hajime Saitō
Jozo-Dono as Toshizō Hijikata
Mira-kun as Western!Sōji Okita (not seen in picture)
Papupoika as Heisuke Tōdō (not seen in picture)
Chooichi as Sōji Okita
Myself as Keisuke Sannan

Or group was really nice and I, Shiro Samurai and Mira-kun got a photo taken by that Japanese candy seller who I bought the Doraemon candy container from. I only bought an Uryū Ishida (Bleach) art hang-thingy from the Artist's Alley, one more candy container and the A Link to the Past Zelda manga.

Gonna miss the Hakuōki group! You peeps are great! I enjoyed every damn second of trolling! That was my Animecon IX.

Thank you and see you all at Tracon 7!

Keisuke Sannan Photoshoot

It's photoshoot time!

I said in the last journal that I will put up some photos of the finished cosplay. I'm sorry for the delay, had a lot to do yesterday so I do that today instead! Enough blabbering here is some photos of my Keisuke Sannan (Hakuōki: Shinsengumi Kitan) costume that I will debut at Animecon IX for the first time. I will use temporally swords for him and I hope that the con allows them in as they're metallic.

Cosplayer: Frozen Angel (Keisuke Sannan)
Photographer & editor: Shiro Samurai

Give me your blooooooood ~

Sannan... Sannan and even more Sannan! Who would get enough of him?

Because the whole photoshooting area was a damn mosquito kingdom I and Shiro Samurai (photographer) ended up getting disturbed a lot during the photos and we also got millions on mosquito bites, which kinda sucked. I even yelled once "C'mon hurry they're eating me up!" xD

Bonus Picture!

This is what happens when a mosquito bit me during a shot xD

So see you at Animecon IX!

Keisuke Sannan Progress

Hello again!

Today and yesterday I worked on Keisuke Sannan's haori. Mom and Shiro Samurai helped me a lot. I didn't expect myself to be this rusty at sewing! Sewed last time during January. Yeah, it was quite annoying to forget such simple sewing basics that I surely knew before... gah. Well it's finally done and here is some work in-progress pictures of both days. Please excuse the color differences on the haori.

Haori base. There are no fabric pictures.
Ironed the collar trim.
Needled the collar trim in place.
Sewed it in place.
Belt completed.
Yeah, that's pretty nice progress so far even if I derped for help 24/7 and could barely do a shit myself. Now it's time to be a bit self-going so I cut out the ties for the haori, 40 cm was the total length of both ties. According to me they looked fine so I started to sew them. The first one was a bitch to sew because it derped like hurrdurr when I was folding the sides in. I didn't needle or iron it which would make it a bit easier to sew. When it was finally done, I took it in my hand and took a closer look on it. Then it hit me and hard - it was fucking wrinkled, shaped like a banana and the edges were totally fugly! Fffff-

Seam ripper to the rescue!
Yes, I had to take the seam ripper and start all over with it. Mom did the "right ones" later when she arrived home because mine were well... shitty. I left the ties and started with the black bands at the arm edges. The left one went great but when it was time to do the right one... well.

I don't even...
Oh my... this must probably be my biggest fail in sewing history! Don't ask me how I did it! I was so sure that it was the right side before sewing but just look at that! Once again it was the seam ripper to the rescue! It took me around a hour to rip off all the failed seams. Luckily I somewhat enjoy ripping them off, am I the only one?

Hours after countless calls for help and shit loads of seam ripping and derpy comments from mom the haori was finally done. So here is the rage builder!

Don't know if I shall feel pleased or trolled here.
To sum it up, this was surely not my day. Everything that I did failed more or less, I feel so rusty because this haori shouldn't be any problem normally. I mean I have sewed more difficult things like my Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia) cosplay, surely it's embarrassing!

That's all for my Keisuke Sannan cosplay, it will be debuted this weekend in Animecon. Some photos of the whole costume will be up tomorrow so stay tuned folks.
