Tracon 8 Summary

My journey to Tracon started on Friday the 13th October to Tampere in southern Finland. This time I went to Tampere on my own by train because there was no space in the carpool person's car who gave a ride to Shiro Samurai and Hasakitsuki.

Waiting at the train station while being very early.
When I arrived at Tampere during late night I waited for Hansku to show up, so that I could fetch my Luka Crosszeria (The Betrayal Knows My Name) wig from them. Once I had the wig in my hands I walked to my hotel where I was supposed to sleep during the con together with Shiro Samurai, Hasakitsuki and Ri-kun. At the hotel I unpacked what I needed and we talked, derped and went to sleep, excited for the con - Tracon 8.

We woke up at 08:00 (local time) and put on our cosplays and headed for the con, I was really happy that our Omenahotel was the closer one to the train station because the one we were in last year was way farther away. From the train station you could take a shortcut to the con. My cosplay for the day was an original casual version of Luka Crosszeria and once we arrived at the con building I called Lanvi, who I had commissioned Luka's badass sword from. He showed up and we walked to his car to pick up the commissioned sword and the instant I saw it I was mind blown! I didn't know what to say, really! It looked way better than I had imagined and I don't know how to thank you Lanvi enough, you're seriously fucking amazing at what you do! You rock <3

With the sword in my hand and the money in his, I continued my way to get inside Tracon 8. At the con I spent some time with my hotel company and Sacchan, had people commenting the badass sword and a few taking my photo. I had my camera with me so I snapped photos of familiar, cool characters and those that had an interesting design according to me.

Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear.
Kefka from Final Fantasy VI.
Rita Mordio from Tales of Vesperia.
Hubert Ozwell from Tales of Graces.
Izumi "Izzy" Koushiro from Digimon Adventure. Dat Tentomon though <3
Gaius from Tales of Xillia.
Eve from Elsword.
At 15:00 there was this symphonic wind ensemble led by Okka Kivikataja and my company went to watch it. I weren't so interested in it during the beginning of the day but because there wasn't so much to do I tagged along and were positively surprised! They played for 45 minutes anime songs and music, I didn't recognize many of the songs but I enjoyed it overall and the Pokémon Red/Blue Medley was full of nostalgia!

Concert introduction.
When the concert was over I and my hotel group went to eat, we had some kebab.

Stop seriously photographing me bro...
After the food we went to photoshoot each other at Tracon's outdoor area near the lake. Here are a few photos of my Luka Crosszeria cosplay.

The rest of the con day went to check the Dealer's Hall, spend time with friends and look at all the cool cosplayers that passed us by. When it was getting around 21:00-22:00 our group decided to head back to the hotel to get some rest. It had been a long journey for all of us.

My cosplay swords and Kratos Aurion wig on the table.
Oh and I never ran into any other The Betrayal Knows My Name cosplayers -so far that I would recognize- and neither did I have someone coming up to me and telling me that there is a cosplay meet somewhere. I just guess this whole meet thing got forgotten or something. Oh well, I did enjoy my time as Luka pretty much even without a meet, so I will definitely cosplay him again! Especially with that badass sword.

Normally I use to have an easy and comfortable cosplay on Sunday but this time I and my company went like "fuck this shit" and did the reverse. I cosplayed Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia) and the rest of my company had also more time consuming costumes. Great way to start a Sunday morning dudes! Anyway, with all of us ready we took our belongings and left the hotel and headed towards Tampere-talo (con building).

Once at the con I made sure what time the Tales of activity was and got my information secured early. Before Tracon I and Shiro Samurai had been thinking about attending the The Legend of Zelda piano concert that was held 13:00 at the con's second floor. However, the Tales of activity started 12:00 and I was there longer than expected so I missed the Zelda concert. The Tales of activity was a quiz competition organized by fans for fans. I didn't participate in the quiz as the prize that I would have wanted, I already had. The other prizes I had no interest in. But while being there, I helped my friend Wandiery with some quizzes who participated. After the quiz those who wanted could play either Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Xillia (Japanese version) or Tales of Graces f until the activity came to an end. I didn't play any of the games because when I play a Tales of game, I want to play it from the beginning to get the full story. However, I did play my Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology on my PSP just for the sake of playing something and killing time. After the activity I went to search after my company and found out that they weren't at the Zelda concert either. We heard from Sacchan that she had to already leave the con around 14:00 because of her carpool people wanted to head back. I said my goodbyes to her and saw her leave the con. I hope that your ride back home was at least okay!

We really didn't do anything specific at the con, except being half zombified cosplayers, walked around and being derp. I only had one person taking a photo of me as Kratos but I think that the majority of congoers have already seen that costume, as it has traveled back and forth between Finland and Sweden. Kratos is after all my most cosplayed character. During the day I took a photo of this Attack on Titan group that were close to us when we were outdoors at one point. Oh and I also saw this one person doing an awesome Germany from Hetalia. I really should watch that show someday! I've heard that it's hilarious.

Attack on Titan group.
Germany from Hetalia.
I also found Hidaslori who was cosplaying as Zelos Wilder from Tales of Symphonia -as they had told me earlier- and because we both cosplayed from the same game, Shiro Samurai snapped a photo of us.

When the clock started to reach 16:30 I went to change back to normal gear, took my stuff, said farewell to Ri-kun and headed for the train station. I found my way to the right track and before boarding the train I took a photo of my con stuff while sitting next to them and eating a white chocolate Magnum ice cream.

Dem swords <3
Nothing interested during the way back home except this beautiful view. Oh how I love to watch the sunset!

Guess what?

Yes, just that!

Bonus Picture!

Luka on drugs! xD
Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Cosplay Repair - Kratos Aurion

So those of you who have read my Närcon 2013 Summary post knows that my Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia) cosplay took some damage at the convention. Wondering what's up with that cosplay right now? Well, I have been fixing and working with it during the last weeks more or less and today he's finally ready for Tracon 8! Sweet!

This is what I fixed on the cosplay:

- Sewed new rubber bands to the back of the shoes.
- Glued the metallic part back to the sheath.
- Used wire and glue to fix the shape of the wig.
- Re-painted and gave a completely new look to the sword.

Progress will not be uploaded by date but by different "parts".

Sword - Sheath:

The metallic part loose from the sheath.
I turned the sheath cloth inside-out and sewed the corners to give it the correct shape, so that the metallic part can be attached later.
Sewed and correct side showing. Notice the v-shape.
Metallic part attached with silicone. I hope it holds now.

Blade of the sword sanded with sandpaper, to make the surface even for spraying later.
Zoom on the sanded blade surface.
Zoom on the handle. Notice the dirt and coloring.
Zoom on top. This needs to be fixed as well.
Covered the areas of the sword that I don't want silver colored. Preparing.
Spray painted the blade silver. The other side's colored surface got stuck on the commercial which left some marks on it.
Old handle ribbon getting removed... by force! Karlsson's Klister (glue) sure is keeping things in place!
Ribbon removed, handle sanded and sprayed with gray paint. The color happened to reach its way to the red top...
... and the blade! Asdfsdf! Even if it was properly covered and put in place.
Painted but I dislike the failed "red on the gray area" let's fix it.
Top covered with newspapers the best I could. I sprayed the handle again with the gray paint.
Just look at that top after the minutes or careful newspaper placement! Didn't work for shit!
Top painted again. Not perfect but better than last time (I went to pick up a better pencil as well).
The new ribbon color.
Tried to glue the ribbon in place with fabric glue at first but it didn't work. Then I glued it with Karlsson's Klister and hell yeah, way to go!
Ribbon progress, I tested it first without glue to see if I could get the pattern right.
Almost done with ribbon progress!
Handle done and zoom on ribbon pattern.

Sword when done 2009, no spray paints used.
Sword make-over 2013, with spray paint.

What the rain damaged spike should look like.
I have been thinking about using wire to get the spike to stand up as I heard from my friend Sabi that it works well and is sturdy, they used it for a costume too. So I went with a thicker wire and worked with it until I got the desired shape. Took me a few tries. Thanks for the tips and advice Sabi <3

Fallen spike put back up with the help of wire.
This was also my first time working with wire on a wig. I also fixed some of the front hair with glue so that they keep their place. Sadly I have no pictures of that and the wire tries, why? You know, you shouldn't hold a camera when you have glue everywhere on your hands... almost. But I am satisfied with this!

Gray-thing glued in place, it was loose. Old damaged rubber bands also cut off from both shoes.
Ripping off the rests of the old rubber bands.
Ripping complete.
New rubber bands cut out. 27 cm each.
One side sewed in place.
First shoe done.
Process repeated and both shoes done.
Tracon 8 is soon here, I'm coming!
